Blogtoberfest

I had heard whispers of blogtoberfest amongst the blogs I frequent.

I had supposed it had something to do with the month of October and Blogging.

Today I found Tinniegirl.  Tinniegirl is hosting Blogtoberfest.  I was right, it is about blogging in the month of October, namely every day of October.

So I signed up!  Let's see if I can post every single day in October.....

Another Cot Quilt

I had intentions of blogging about my never ending battle with my floordrobe, but I just couldn't bring myself to post a picture of my bedroom floor covered in clothes.

Then I thought I could post a picture of my daughters' floordrobe, but I cleaned that up on Sunday and have no intention of dumping their clothes on the floor just for a photo.

So you'll have to wait for that one.....

Instead I shall post some badly lit, flash photography, shots of the latest baby  quilt I am almost finished.

I only have the binding left on this quilt, then I have to make another for a baby shower this Sunday.  If I have time I would love to make a paper crane mobile to go with each quilt.  We will see, have to clean up the floordrobe first.

Speaking of housework, a friend of mine has started a new blog with some fantastic tips for the unavoidable domestic duties we all face.  Perhaps one of her ideas will make your life easier. Take a peek...

Paper Crane Mobile

As a school holiday activity I taught my 2 girls to make paper cranes.  I had to learn first of course.  This is the tutorial I used, but there are a plethora to choose from, you can even watch a video on you tube if you wish.

It was the smartest thing I have done all school holidays!  My 8 year old is usually so hard to keep occupied, and so messy with all her craft.  She has made probably 40 paper cranes now and just keeps pumping them out.  The clean up is so easy, and it has boosted her self esteem cause she is planning on teaching everyone back at school.

So what to do with all the beautiful paper cranes???

This....

A Paper Crane Mobile.

And of course she had to make some big cranes to sit on the shelf with the teddies.

What are you up to on the school holidays???

My Creative Space

Before anything else is said I must apologise for this terrible photo.

My husband has borrowed my new camera today. Boy I miss my camera!

So this was taken on a dodgy iPhone that has a particularly dim screen thanks to water damage (actually, coffee damage).

Oh my goodness its a terrible photo.  The quilt is not that crash hot either.

I was trying to get it finished before I went to see my friend and her new baby today.  Unfortunately this is as far as I got.  Some quilting and binding is on the cards for tomorrow.

Then another visit to my friend and her 3 gorgeous kids sometime next week.

Oops! Kootoyoo seems to be on holidays this week, :-)

New Baby Food Recipe

My baby boy eats a tonne.... and I hate buying prepackaged baby food..... don't get me started...

Anyway, I am always trying to think of different things to feed him to mix it up a little.

He loves apples but I hate cooking them, and I hate buying tiny little cans of them that cost a fortune.... so I thought, and I thought, and I came up with an idea...

I mixed some fork mashed pie apple with some rice cereal and a tablespoon of natural yogurt.... He loves it :-)

All the goodness of apples and yogurt with no added sugar.

Now, how to store the pie apple, usually I would freeze left over vegies in ice block trays and turn out into a ziplock bag when frozen.... but there is just too much apple.  So, I spread it all out in a large sadwich ziplock bag and have attempted to put creases in the sheet of apple so that it can be broken up like a block of chocolate... hope it works... will let you know.

Do you have any great baby food recipes??? I would love to know...

Baby Quilts and a Giveaway

One down and another one waiting in the wings.

I am not usually one for finishing quilts, you might remember this one..... I am still chipping away at it.

But here is my finished Vintage Sheet Fat Quarter Cot Quilt.....

Hand stitched bias binding and all...

The photo is taken on my back veranda, see the stone wall? My whole house is made out of that stone, it's gorgeous but unfortunately 'tis only 2 bedrooms and there are 5 in our family.  We will be selling it soon.... hopefully.

In other news, I have purchased more fabric....

These fabrics are going to be another cot quilt, for a friend who has just had a baby boy.

I love the brown zebra stripe fabric :-)

Have you heard about Wendy's giveaway?

I shall think about having a giveaway myself soon, any ideas?

My Creative Space

Well, I am a little late this week.....but I have a good excuse.  I have been so creative that I lost my camera cable in my creative space.  Luckily I discovered that my camera came with a spare..... for creative people just like me.....

Since the market last week my head has been swimming with ideas for a girls summer range of clothing.  here are my first prototypes.....

This is all there is so far.... I will put up some more pictures when I have a few mix and match items...

I think I might list some of the things I have made on etsy, before I get cold feet.
For more inspiration grab a coffee and visit Kootoyoo.

I Love My New Camera

I am not saying that these are good photos, but I can see improvement and feel that there may be some hope for me yet.....

I love the way the background is out of focus, and I like how the shot is divided into thirds.  Just a shame that my daughter has nutella on her face. I wonder if this shot would look good in black and white?

I really like this one too, love the angle of the seagull and how he looks ready to steal someones fish and chips.

I was quite lucky to catch him in flight.  If I had the camera on the correct settings perhaps I could have got a better shot..... I still like it.

Pretty Birdy.....

Well, it was a lovely afternoon and I am happy that I was able to take some photos that I feel are an improvement.....

Rosebubs Market

I remembered to take a few shots just before pack up time.

I sold a few of the dresses I made and a few more second hand items but most of the fun was had meeting new people and bagging a bargain or two....

I shared the stall with The Textured Leaf and DorothyBills.

That gorgeous brown floral dress is one of The Textured Leafs creations.  You can buy her beautiful garments in her etsy store.

The quilts displayed in the vintage luggage are the handiwork of DorothyBills. You can find some of her amazing work in her madeit store. The green quilt featured the most luscious velvet and the backing was the most amazing floral I have ever seen.  Wendy and I both had our eye on this quilt. I wouldn't be surprised if it never makes it to the etsy shop and instead ends up as a gift for the new Textured Leaf grand baby.

Should I list my dresses on etsy or madeit?  I have plans for a summer range for older girls as well.  It is so hard to find handmade clothes for girls over 6.  I wonder whether they would be more popular on etsy or madeit. Let me know what you think.

This is the finished quilt that was blogged about here.

We also met another lovely blogger, Emma from Yknot.  Emma sells her children's range at the Red Hill Market and Magnolia Square.  You can also buy her wares from her website.  I was very impressed with Emma's range, definitely something to aspire to, great to see someone living the dream.....

My Creative Space

I have done it, I have committed to a stall at a market.  I am excited, scared, nervous.....  The good thing is that I can sell both new and used children's items.  I have a lot of things I need to get rid of and I am looking for a way to sell some of my creations.  Here are a couple of things I have been up to tonight in preparation...

Some dresses.....

and swing tags...

I have also almost finished my Vintage Sheet Fat Quarter Cot Quilt.  I only have the binding to go, I have my heart set on discovering a lovely mauve sheet in the op-shop tomorrow for the binding.  Once it is completed I will have to take my cot quilt for an outing in the sunshine and get some fantabulous photos..... instead of the ones I keep taking inside at midnight with only three out of four downlights working.

Some more about the market, its called Rosebubs Recycled and Vintage Children's Market and its held this Sunday 12th September at Rosebud Secondary College on the Mornington Peninsula.

If you are in the area pop in to grab a bargain..... and come and say HI!!!

Vintage Sheet Fat Qarter Cot Quilt

Well, It's been a while.....  Winter brought with it sick children and then sick adults...... and then sick children again, and then it threw at me a water damaged camera and a temperamental laptop.... lastly my iPhone cracked the sads :-(  I have been suffering from Technology Withdrawal Syndrome not to mention Facebook withdrawals..... :-)

So what has been happening, in an effort to begin blogging again, I first had to begin crafting again.  Here is what I came up with today.....

This cot quilt top is made from six vintage sheet fat quarters that I received in the Australian Vintage Sheet Fat Quarter Swap held by this lovely lady.  I really need some photography lessons.....

I have also been crocheting away to my hearts content but unfortunately said crochet is not currently available for pictures.  Hats and scarves have been on the menu during winter and I shall gather them all together for a photo shoo shortly.  Perhaps we can take the beloved hats and scarves along with the children out for a stroll in the spring sunshine, whenever it decides to show its pretty self.....

Hope you are all getting over your winter sniffles and looking forward to spring....
